Web Design Tips – 4 Key Elements that Your Website Must Have

Web Design Tips – 4 Key Elements that Your Website Must Have

If you’re in the process of creating a layout for your site, you’ll probably be wondering what makes a successful web design. Well, there are basically four major elements that you must apply in order for your design to be effective. Read the rest of the article to learn more about each element and how it contributes to your website’s performance.

Professional and Organized Design
First of all, your web design must possess a professional look so that your visitors and potential clients will take your products and services seriously. A professional design means that you should use readable fonts, eye-friendly colors, light backgrounds, and relevant graphics that speak about what you’re selling or blogging about. Your menus, blog posts, images, videos and other media must also be well-arranged and categorized so that users can easily locate them. Note that the first thing that people notice when they enter your site is the overall design, so if your visitors find themselves in a disorganized, outdated and complex website, they will immediately leave and not even bother discovering your amazing products and services.

Fresh and Original and Content
Content is also one of the top things that make a website truly appealing to your audience. Keep in mind that users are always looking for new information, and you must be able to provide that. Make sure all the contents you place on your website are indeed fresh, unique and accessible to the public. Create articles, blog posts and updates that are well-written and informative, and sure enough search engines and users will give your website a higher ranking.

Call to Action
Another element that you should apply is putting call-to-action reminders on your website. But don’t overdo it though because excessive selling is often perceived as spam. Simply place a few strong taglines and statements in your website’s side bar, or perhaps dedicate one or two web pages that discuss the many benefits of your product or service and encourage users to try it.

Complete Contact Information
And lastly, a web design cannot be considered done if you don’t give complete contact info to your visitors and potential clients. It’s advisable to create one web page that details how users can reach you. There you should provide your company’s main address, contact person, telephone & fax number, e-mail address, and other important information that you’ve like to add. See to it that the contact details you’ve shared are updatedyou wouldn’t want to miss interested buyers and lose profit! Once you’ve completed this final element, you can wrap up the web design and finally get your site fully functioning.

Web Design Guide: When Do Your Site Needs A Facelift?

Take a look at your site – does it look like it has been designed by a twelve year old or there is nothing new about your site to enamour your targeted audience, then it is time for a facelift for your website. You are never late to don a makeover to your site to go with the changing pace and phase of age which calls for newer look and feel of presenting information and showcasing your products or services.

You must have been aiming to run your business for a lifetime and therefore, you need keep a schedule for addition, deletion or modification to keep magnetising your visitors with new age and high end look for this prolonged period. And the web design strategy you espouse must speak louder and clearer given the increasing growth of internet users. And for creating a appealing makeover for your site, these steps will help you with how to start and from which perspectives should you feel that your site needs a redesigning process –

• Engage and encourage your visitors to give you feedback on major areas and the areas that they might be annoyed of and the areas having scopes of betterment. Then re-assess your website on the basis of feedbacks of your visitors in order to make it simple and simply great to visit, navigate and use. s

• Do you have a direct response site, then your contents are required to be organized in order to enable your readers to skim or go through comfortably.

• Make sure your ‘facelift’ process has room for the box for “updates” allowing you to incorporate special or breaking news items in your niche – to make your audience the first to know about it at your site.

• Downloading is a quite crowd pulling facility for any kind of website facilitating users to access information in any form whether in texts, images, audio or video to promote benefits of your products or services. Initial visits of your customer may not prompt them to invest their money into your products/services, may invest their potential time in subscribing for accessing or downloading information. Hence, add web pages for “Downloads” to make the site more lucrative and reliable.

Another flash web design hint to increase usability of your site is to incorporate a “Glossary of Terms” as your readers may not be able to understand all those technical jargons of the niche helping to understand the contents of your site without stumbling on specific terms.

Drive Web Site Visitor Traffic to your Website

February 16, 2011 by emcom Leave a Comment

Driving Traffic to a Website – SEO

For many Internet marketers, the first step in their marketing strategy is to drive traffic to their website. One of the most effective ways to do this is through search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is a practice in which Websites are designed and content for these Websites is written in a manner that makes search engines believe the Website is valuable to visitors searching for particular keywords. The relevance of optimizing a Website for particular keywords is that visitors who search for these terms are likely members of the target audience.

Each search engine uses a unique algorithm to determine the worth of particular Websites relevant to keywords and returns results ranking these Websites accordingly. This is significant because Internet users are categorically looking for information quickly. They also tend to rely on search engines to rank Websites accurately and are much more likely to visit Websites that are on the first page of results when they search for a particular word or phrase. Websites which fall on the second page may be visited, but those further on the list are not likely to generate much traffic through search engine results. Search engine algorithms consider a number of factors when ranking Websites. Some of these factors include keyword density, META tags, ALT tags, keyword prominence, inbound links, and previous traffic. SEO is a complicated process with no guarantees for success. Many who profit from increased traffic to their Websites are wise to employ consultants to properly optimize their Websites.

SEO is not the only way to drive traffic to a particular Website. Another popular option is to actively participate in trade-related forums. These are communities where those who share particular interests congregate to share ideas, ask questions, or just chat. Providing insightful commentary on these message boards and including a link to your Website in your signature is one way an individual can drive additional traffic to his website. It is important to remember this should not cross the line to spam. It is acceptable to include a link in your signature if you are contributing appropriately to the conversation, but incorporating a link without a valuable comment may be considered spam.

SEO is critical to the success of any Internet niche marketing campaign because it is one of the best ways Website owners can increase traffic to their website. Search engines are used regularly by Internet users who are looking for more information on a particular subject. Internet users enter keywords to these niche subjects and visit the Websites that rank well on the search engines. The Internet is a fast-paced research tool and those who use the Internet expect results quickly. Your niche Website may be filled with quality content, useful resources, and helpful advice, but if you don’t optimize your Website properly, you many not receive the traffic your Website warrants. If your website isn’t on the first or second page of search results, it’s unlikely many users will even see the link to your Website.

In light of the propensity of Internet users to visit websites with high-ranking search results, it stands to reason that optimizing a Website is absolutely necessary. Owners of niche websites who are successful recognize this fact and make concerted efforts to achieve high search engine rankings.

Images can also contribute to the search engine rankings of a Website. This is one fact not commonly known by those who only casually dabble in the world of SEO. However, those who are savvy realize images, although not visible to search engines, can still contribute to a successful SEO campaign for a niche Website.

While images themselves are not visible to search engines, ALT tags are visible to search engines. It is through these ALT tags that Website owners allow their images to contribute to their search engine rankings. ALT tags are pieces of HTML code describing the image. These tags are often visible to the Website visitor when they move their mouse over the image. The text contained within the ALT tag may become visible at this time, but otherwise visitors would be unaware they are even implemented.

Now that you have already used the Internet to learn about the industry of Internet marketing, you probably know that finding a profitable niche is imperative. A niche is essentially a specific area of interest. Ideally you will already be an expert in this subject and it will be a subject that has a wide Internet audience without a great deal of existing Websites focusing on it. Once again, you can turn to the Internet for finding this niche.

You may already have a few ideas for niches. These are probably subjects you are passionate about and understand very well. Examining statistical information provided by popular search engines regarding the popularity of search terms related to your niche will give you a good indication of whether or not Internet users are interested in your niche. If keywords related to your niche are searched on these search engines often, it is evident there is an audience for your niche. Next, it is time to enter these keywords in a search engine and evaluate the Websites provided as results for these keywords. If there are many strong results, the niche can be considered saturated. In this case, it is a good idea to abandon the original idea and search for another niche. However, if there are not many high-quality search results, you may have found your perfect niche

Internet marketing is quickly becoming one of the most profitable types of marketing. The Internet has the capability of reaching a wide audience and those who take advantage of this widespread reach find themselves in a position where they can benefit greatly from potential clients from all over the world. There are many who are attempting to profit from Internet marketing, but those who are truly successful realize the importance of focusing their efforts on a specific niche. This means the investor focuses his marketing effort on a specific area of interest. This enables the investor to have a more focused strategy for reaching potential customers.

The key to finding a niche in the world of Internet marketing is finding a balance between an area of interest to a wide audience and one that is not already saturated on the Internet. This is because a niche which is already saturated on the Internet may not be profitable because there is already so much competition for the interest and business of the target audience’s attention. Investors marketing in these areas would have to be truly innovative and far superior to the competitors already on the market to secure a share of the market.

Conversely, a niche that is not already saturated has room for savvy entrepreneurs to begin marketing to their target audience. In this scenario, the audience is hungry for more marketing in this area and smart investors realize what it takes to feed this appetite. These potential clients are looking for quality products or services and investors who know how to make finding their products or services on the Internet a simple process.

We have already spoken about the importance of choosing a niche where the Internet is not already saturated but there is consumer interest, but the other key component to selecting a niche is choosing a subject for which you have a passion. This is important because your passion for a particular subject will translate well to profits for a number of reasons. First of all, your passion will drive you to succeed. Secondly, you will likely produce higher-quality products and services if you are marketing a niche you enjoy because you have more intrinsic knowledge of the needs of your customers. The consumers will recognize your love for the products and services you promote and reward you with their business and their loyalty.

Those who are involved in Internet marketing may find that it is possible to profit without focusing on specific niches, but in many cases this is not an easy task. All aspects of Internet marketing become exponentially more difficult when there is not a targeted area of focus. Finding advertisers is one of the most obvious examples of how not focusing on a specific niche can make your job harder. Advertisers want to reach a specific audience. If your Internet marketing efforts are highly specialized, you are much more likely to find an advertiser who has a target audience that closely matches your own target audience. When this happens, advertisers see the benefit in collaborating with you. However, if your target audience is more diverse, advertisers may be hesitant to enter into a partnership with you because a portion of your audience may not be interested in their products or services. Therefore, they do not see the advantage to collaborating with you.

The example related to finding advertisers clearly illustrates the need to find a niche but there are other reasons why finding a niche is important. One such reason is it reduces workload such as the research efforts. Researching a very specific niche is much easier than attempting to do the same research for several different areas. If the niche you select is not broken down enough into a small enough component, you may find yourself often doubling and tripling your efforts in certain areas of your marketing strategy to reach your entire potential audience.

Are Website Owners Being Overcharged for Ineffective Search Engine Optimisation Services?

January 30, 2011 by emcom 2 Comments

With today’s extraordinary emphasis on the internet, there is little wonder that so many people have opted to chance their arm in the hugely competitive website services industry.

From website developers and designers to online marketing and SEO consultants, the world is hardly short on expertise. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world there is always someone you know who is involved in this thriving market. Learning how to design, develop and market a website is not something that anyone can learn in a couple of days, so it’s best left in the hands of the experts.  However, the question must be asked – how many of these service providers can actually be classed as experts.  Much like car mechanic work, most people will pay for website services not knowing what they should be getting charged for a service, whether it’s being done properly or whether they getting good value for money.

As far as website design is concerned, there is little that can be hidden.  Website owners can verify straight away if the design is up to scratch and if it’s likely to provide them with the intended online results and functionality.Search Engine Optimisation or SEO, on the other hand, is the one aspect of a website that can be more difficult to grasp.  SEO is the main ingredient in providing a website with the online exposure it needs. After all, there is no point having a website unless people can locate it online, particularly if your business is in a competitive online market, such as the accommodation industry.SEO is aimed at increasing your rankings in the Search Engines for a variety of highly searched keyword phrases that relate to your products or services. This is a service that is normally carried out prior to or immediately after the development of a website. Search Engine Marketing or SEM is then fulfilled on an ongoing basis to help business websites slowly chip away at surpassing their competitors online. The main aspect of ongoing Search Engine Optimisation is link building. This is the biggest factor that determines the positional movement of a website’s Search Engine rankings for specific keyword phrases. Businesses in a highly competitive online market need an agressive online marketing campaign to leap ahead of their competitors.

Whilst website owners get excellent benefit out of link building, there are a large percentage of website owners who are being charged unjustifiable amounts on a monthly basis for very little results. In fact, some businesses actually carry out what are classed as “black hat” SEO practices. These are generally methods of link building that require little time and cost to the service provider, yet they charge over the top prices.

Whilst those websites involved in these techniques often see great results in the beginning, in most cases, these “black hat” forms of Search Engine Optimisation can cause a website to lose its rankings for specific keyword phrases or be dropped out of the rankings altogether.

It’s important that you shop around, ask some questions about what you expect to receive for your money and an outline of what’s being achieved. You’ll soon get a feel for what is right and how much you should be paying.

Search Engine Optimisation – How to Increase Website Visitors with Article Writing and Blogs.

January 18, 2011 by emcom Leave a Comment

Search Engine Optimisation. In this article I am going to outline two more methods to increase your search engine rankings and thus also increase visitors to your website

A great way of increasing search engine optimisation and driving traffic is by the use of articles. The more traffic visiting your site the more popular it will be deemed by the Search Engines and, thus, your ratings will automatically improve. Each article you publish will be adding links and so, once again, your search engine rank will improve. In fact, I would suggest that article writing is one of the easiest and most lucrative in terms of website ranking and increasing targeted traffic.

Type up a brief but useful and informative article, of around 500 to 700 words, on a topic relevant to your website or product. The title and summary should grab their attention making them want to read what you have to say. Keep the quality good. Check for spelling mistakes. Use paragraphs appropriately and ensure the grammar is correct. The search engines love quality content and so do the article directories, this is an important point so take this on board.

Good articles serve as an excellent source of links to your website both in terms of search engine optimisation and for getting visitors to click through to your site. They can be a source of good quality visitors for weeks, months and sometimes years after being published.

Always remember to add a link to your site in the resource box. Most directories will allow 3 links usually in the resource box and some will allow links in the actual content. Not many will allow affiliate links. Always remember to read thoroughly their terms and conditions, this will prevent your articles from being rejected and the trouble of you having to re-edit and re-submit them.

Your next topic for consideration is blogs. These are incredibly popular and will once again drum up traffic for your website. There are lots of sites which will let you set up a blog on your chosen topic for free. My advice is just have a go. They are in different formats and offer different things.

Look at the blogs other people have set up to get inspiration and ideas. Lots of people have a blog for their own personal interest and for up-dating friends and families. They are also used as a source of free information for those people interested in a certain topic.

Make them of interest to the reader and allow them the opportunity to leave comments as well. Keep building your blog on a regular basis and keep your visitors coming back for more. Once again you can put lots of links on these blogs, there are not usually any restriction which means you are building important and necessary links to your website. This will keep the search engines happy and also get you the visitors you need.

These steps are part of the vital processes you need to go through to be a success on-line and to ensure a steady stream of traffic to your site.

Your Website Copy and Effective Search Engine Optimisation

January 16, 2011 by emcom Leave a Comment

Your Website Copy and Effective Search Engine Optimisation

First time visitors to your website often come from the Search Engines after they have carried out a search query for the information, product or service that they require. If they don’t find the information they are searching for after arriving at your site, chances are they will leave as quickly as they arrived. Ensuring that the copy on your website is aimed at your target market is a crucial point in retaining visitors on your site and of course, in ensuring that they come back. In terms of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and copy, think of the copy as Search Engine ‘spider food’. Making it keyword rich, therefore, helps to determine a site’s relevancy to a searcher’s query.

Although there is no exact measure of how much or how little copy you should have, a minimum of 150 – 200 words per page provides a reasonable amount of text to help the search spiders determine what your web pages are representing and allows for their delivery in Search Engine results pages relevant to a particular query. In terms of making your copy keyword rich, you do need to ensure that it is not overloaded with keywords just for the purpose of Search Engines. As mentioned above, copy needs to be targeted to your users – giving an accurate description of your offering and ensuring that it is suitable for your audience. Unsure where to start with regards to writing the copy for your website? Firstly, it helps to find out what keyword phrases people are using in searches. Keyword Research using tools such as those provided by Google, Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery, for example, will help you to identify keyword phrases relevant to your website and can assist you with your SEO Copywriting. What about E-Commerce Sites? How Can I Incorporate Copy?

You may find that your site structure or access to your site limits you but by using subtle optimisation techniques, there are ways to ensure that your site has the relevant information on it for the Search Engine spiders to crawl. If you are using a Content Management system, then consider asking your developer to allow for a field on each page that you can populate with copy relevant to a particular product that shows directly below the product title.

A trap that many e-commerce sites fall into is combining their products into broad areas rather than splitting them into specific areas. For example, having a page which has specific copy about product ‘X’, rather than generalising by also including products ‘A & B’, ensures that users are offered a themed page which is more likely to be relevant to what they are searching for. Considering the structure of your sites and applying standard usability techniques such as this provides a much improved user experience and aids in truly effective Search Engine Optimisation.

What if I have more than one site?

Can I apply the same copy across all of them? The answer is no. If you have several sites which are replicas of each other then it’s definitely time to consider writing unique copy – even if each of your sites are targeting different geographical markets. Again, the copy needs to be written primarily for your target audience if you wish to entice, retain and keep them coming back. This does involve a lot of work but if you don’t, you risk alienating your target market and your site could quite possibly be filtered out of Search Engine results on the grounds of duplicate content.

You will want a website designer who specializes in social networking websites. You want a website designer who is experienced and not someone who lacks training for such venture. You want to keep the communication open and you want your website designer to be accessible to you during this project. I would recommend that you and your website designer speak over the telephone as compared to email or chat messaging this will ensure that you are on the same level and that you both understand of what is occurring referencing your website.

Project proposals

You should ask for a project proposal for approval from the website designer. This is a great idea, which will produce what the website designer wants to perform with your social networking website. The proposal will also create the timeframe which for the project to be completed.

Stay on top of the project

You will want to remain on top of the project for your website. Do not be too pushy or demanding while ensuring that you communicate precisely what you want referencing your website design as well as generally.

Ensure that you can make additions and upgrades in the future on your website

The coding and software, which the website designer utilizes, should be the type, which can be extended or expanded upon, this, will ensure that later on down the road you can add improvements or upgrades and this will ensure the whole project of your website will not have to be redone.

When you are working with a web design company or an independent website designer, you will need to ensure that a non-disclosure agree will be signed by both parties involved to ensure the project as well as the concept of the project is protected.
